A Doom and Shinobi crossover mod
As the name suggests, Doom Shinobi Mod is a mod that brings the game worlds of two popular games—Doom and Shinobi—together. It achieves this by replacing the playable character in Doom with the protagonist from Shinobi. The mod is designed specifically to work with GZDoom.
The mod leaves the world of Doom largely unchanged but switches the player from an unseen first-person protagonist to a third-person perspective view of the protagonist from Shinobi. The mod requires the player to have ZDoom with the GZDoom add-on, but both of these—as well as this mod—are free.
Play as a ninja in Doom
This mod brings the central character from Shinobi over to Doom, along with all of the game mechanics associated with that character—such as the ability to dash, wall-run, throw shurikens, and double jump—as well as a host of other game mechanics that were not part of the original Doom game. These changes are accompanied by a HUD change that is more reminiscent of the HUD in Shinobi.
Game changes
Beyond the additional player mechanics, the mod also switches the game to a third-person perspective, meaning the player can see their character in a way that wasn’t possible through the original game. It also brings over the “power” mechanic from Shinobi, allowing the player to unlock certain powers and abilities as they play the game.
Limited appeal
While the mod achieves its goal of overhauling Doom to the point that it feels like an entirely different game, this may put off fans of the original Doom game. On the other hand, fans of Shinobi and similar games should find the mod enjoyable.
